Jillian Weiss, amazing Trans activist and blogger, posed the question: IS BLOGGING DEAD?
A shocked silence hung in the air for a moment at Netroots Nation 2012 LGBT Pre-Convention while everyone contemplated this terrible possibility, and then person after person from LGBT organizations and blogs talked about why blogs are not only alive and kicking…but creating serious change!!!
“To say blogging is dead, is like saying that oxygen is irrelevant. Just because you don’t see it, doesn’t mean it isn’t important…Ubiquity is what blogging has become” – Zack Ford, LGBT researcher and blogger from the Center for American Progress Action Fund
“All the same principles that existed in traditional media till exist in new media” – Renee Rosenfeld from Reverberate Media
And there is a new blogging frontier…Mobile phones!
35% of Freedom to Marry’s emails are opened on mobile devices, so, how does this change the format of blogs and the way that information is disseminated?
The amazing Jos Truitt, of Feministing, had some suggestions:
– Make information accessible! It is easy to do basic fixes…make sure formatting works across different devices.
– Use more image and video posts and perhaps less long, analytical posts
Stay tuned! More to come!
